Glen Villano joined Merchants Fleet Management as Chief Operations Officer in 2008, working with senior leadership and ownership to establish and develop a multi-million dollar technology initiative to attract larger and more profitable customers.  In addition, Merchants has focused resources on talent development, attracting the best and the brightest management team in the fleet management industry. As a result, the company experienced dramatic net income and vehicle unit count growth. Appointed as Chief Executive Officer in 2012, he plans to continue best-in-class operational excellence by leveraging a strong  and experienced management team and continue to add technological advancements to benefit employees and most importantly, Merchants’ valued clients.

Villano is a CPA and started his career as a Public Accountant followed by increasing responsibilities in sales, marketing and finance with McGraw Edison, Citicorp and Transamerica Finance. He spent 10 years with Harley-Davidson Financial Services gathering broad experience internationally and in the US in strategy, sales, marketing, operations, quality and finance. As COO, he led the project that established Harley-Davidson’s Eaglemark Bank and he played a key leadership role in the company’s rapid and profitable growth. Glen graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned his Master’s in Business Administration degree from Northwestern University.

What makes your company or work environment unique?

There are many qualities that make Merchants Fleet Management unique.  The foremost is we are a nationally ranked top 10 fleet management company that has remained true to our family culture.  Merchants is family owned and professionally managed; our owners are directly involved in the business and sit within our client service team.  Our highest priority for over 50 years has been giving our clients the most flexible, customized, and consistent fleet management solutions available.  In addition to our national presence, we have stayed very close to community involvement and supporting local charities through employee volunteering, sponsorship donations, and coordination or local charity events.

What accomplishments within your company are you most proud of?

Over the years, Merchants Fleet Management has steadily grown from a regional leasing company to a national fleet leasing and fleet management company with commercial, government, and nonprofit customers in all 50 states with 40,000 funded and managed vehicles. In the last few years Merchants has developed and continues to develop, TotalView, our easy to use interface that delivers analytical excellence along with new client focused technology to provide an intuitive, interactive platform.
In addition, Merchants puts a great focus on talent development for our employees. We have many internal programs such as Mentorship Program, Success Networking Teams, and Individual Development Plans. These programs allow employees to guide their own careers, while networking with others within the organization, to achieve successes and advance in their career development.

What advice would you give to up and coming leaders in the Greater Manchester community?

To utilize your resources. It’s always a good idea to scope out a leader within your organization you could learn from and form a relationship with. By having a mentor throughout your career will give you a sounding board when making big decisions about your individual development plan. We encourage our employees to play an active role in managing their career and continue to build upon the resources that your company can offer to help them grow and expand their skill development.

The Greater Manchester region is a wonderful place to live and grow a career. For those that value and would like an active work/life balance, the abundance of activities in New Hampshire are second to none. With it being such a tight-knit community; you can stay connected through social and professional networks. It is also a great place to continue your education with many colleges and universities in the area.
