Mayor Craig and Greater Manchester Chamber Announce Economic Development Taskforce

Taskforce to Develop Recommendations on Structure and Staffing of City Economic Development Office

February 19, 2020 — Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig and the Greater Manchester Chamber (GMC) announced the formation of a joint taskforce to develop recommendations on the future structure and staffing for the City of Manchester Economic Development Office (MEDO). The taskforce will engage key stakeholders from across the community to solicit their input and feedback on how the MEDO office can best serve the City in the future.

“I appreciate the Chamber’s willingness to work with the city as we consider the future of the Manchester Economic Development Office,” said Mayor Joyce Craig. “There have been many exciting economic opportunities over the last couple of years, and it’s the perfect time to engage community stakeholders to determine how the city can best attract, retain, and expand businesses in Manchester.”

“The MEDO office fulfills a critical role in our community by helping to coordinate economic development activities and shaping the strategies various stakeholders use to attract and retain businesses to the city,” said Mike Skelton, President and CEO of the Greater Manchester Chamber. “This taskforce is an ideal opportunity to step back and reassess our approach to economic development and ensure we have the right structure and tools in place for our current economic development opportunities and challenges.”

The economic development taskforce will engage economic development experts and community stakeholders in the process with opportunities to provide input and feedback, as well as members of the general public. In addition, the taskforce plans to consider economic development staffing models being used by other New Hampshire communities as well as cities across the US that share similar size and economic characteristics to Manchester.

Members include Mike Skelton, President and CEO of the Greater Manchester Chamber, William Craig, Chairman of the Manchester Development Corporation, Ted Kitchens, Director of the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, Mike Harrington, Principal, Harrington & Company and Manchester Planning Board Chair, Ward 3 Alderman Pat Long, Liz Hitchcock, Owner, Bookery Manchester and Kim Roy, General Manager of the DoubleTree Manchester Hotel.
